rates for selling footage to espn

Hi - posted this elsewhere but I need a fast answer,

a producer is calling me about getting raw footage from me of an Olympic sport that I shoot - it's one of a kind stuff and I have no idea what to ask for these days as I haven't done that kind of work in a long time. She will not 'offer' me anything, she keeps wanting to know what I'll charge.

It's a few minutes, for a sports news show they do. Any info is appreciated.

My experience with Corbis, Getty, CBS etc: All rights, worldwide, for one year - 10 seconds max = $5,000. Since it is more than 10 seconds, tell them you'll deal. If they don't want internet, DVD or cable rights, just TV in the U.S., $2,000 for 1 year. Make sure that you have cleared the people and trademarks in the shot - although that is usually the problem of the person doing the licensing (make sure your agreement says that). The big stock houses handle clearances separately from footage licensing.

Posted later in the day:
Ya know what?...I have to reconsider my answer. These are the rates that they charge their customers. If they plan to license it to their customers themselves, then you have to figure 50-60% of those prices.

Depends if the "news" show is considered entertainment or not.
For straight news broadcast:

License Fee: $330 (USD; Lab Fees Not Included)
License Summary: Broadcast News All Media National 5 Years
License Description: The News All Media category allows for distribution in all media channels, except Theatrical.
License Restrictions: This category does NOT include Theatrical or In-Context Promotional Use.

If it's considered entertainment then it jumps up to $750 per ten second cut.

Or, if you wanted to go the micro-stock route, you'd charge them like $30 a cut or so.

I've done some of this for Fox Sports, and I just charge them my regular shoot rate. Did a half-day two-man-crew shoot a couple weeks ago for $400.

appreciate all the responses, and I will figure accordingly. It is pretty unique stuff, hard to get, so I'll ask and see if I receive.

thanks again, LA
