I'm having a problem with a couple color corrected clips. I shot these clips using my Panasonic GH2 dslr at 720p 60fps. I transcoded the clips into ProRes422 Lite. When I color corrected these clips the highlights became solid colored pixels. For example, one clip was too orange so I corrected it by adding blue. The highlights in this clip are solid blue. Another clip was too green, so I added orange to it. The highlights in that clip are solid orange.
The color corrected clips look great except for these solid colored highlights. These highlights won't go away without severely lowering the upper lumen levels. They're really small highlights in the soft focus background of the clip, normally not a problem except now they're solid colors which looks strange and draws attention.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong, and/or how to fix it?
Edit: I fixed the problem, or at least found a work around. First I recaptured the original AVCHD files and transcoded them into ProRes422 HQ files. Theoretically I believe this gives me more color information with which to correct in FCP. Then I applied the same color correction filters except I slightly lowered the upper lumen levels and slightly lowered the color saturation. Now the highlights are normal looking and the solid colors are gone.
