Rap Video Transitions

[thundermonkey]

Hey there, I love the transitions of rap videos and would like some help if at all possible in doing this sort of stuff. For example, in this video @ 36 seconds in, basically going to the next shot in...strands? And being able to time it to the music to boot. I am also trying to find something to basically show 50% of a video and have the other half appear. I tried using a garbage matte but all it does it "grow" from where there is no video to reveal the rest of it. I don't want to reveal, I want for the other half of the video to appear.

I am sorry I can't be more descriptive. If these have specific names it may be why my googling has brought up nothing.

You could accomplish this effect by layering clips on top of each other and keyframing the crop filter

That's all it is. Transform>Crop and the Motion effect controls positioning are your friends. A good variation is to wipe or slide on the new video slices.
