From cheapest to most expensive.

Canon 7D (3,500 Euros)

EX1 + Adaptor (7,000 Euros)

EX3 + Relay + Adaptor (15,000 Euros)

Red One (30,000 Euros)

Sony 900 (60,000 Euros)

Genesis (120,000 Euros NOT FOR SALE)

Now some people have said the Canon if used properly can compete with any of these. Food for thought.

...

Seriously? Like seriously? You're comparing the 7D to the RED One or the Genesis?

If I use a pair of scissor "properly" I can trim my lawn just as well as if I've used a lawnmower, but I would never imply that the scissor is just as good. No way in hell is a 7D comparable to any of these cameras. It's a low cost alternative with serious drawbacks; the buyer needs to recognize that they get what they pay for, but don't be deluded into thinking the 7D is just as good.

Jacotte, if you're trying to justify the purchase of one of these options, just buy as much as you can reasonably afford. You get what you pay for, be satisfied with it, and you can spend the rest of the time thinking about directing, acting, lighting and all the rest of the really important stuff :). These endless comparisons at dvxuser are a turn off.

I'd take the ex1/adapter... or bare ex1/7d... better yet, i'd rather have a good script and a location scout +hfs100 ... lol

In MY humble opinion(My So Called Life, anyone?) the best price options at this point are HVX+adapter(or 170 for a couple more bucks) then HPX-500 with relay lens and adapter....after that I'm thinking RED.

I think about utility though...My cameras need to be swiss army knifes of the digital realm. Everythings good with Jello, except cameras.

This is for ME though...depending on budget, you should just find your best option and start filming....or take a number and stand in line with all the other guys that say they can't film until they have cameras that are 4k, 3d, no Jello, 8 times the dynamic range of film cameras made by RED for $500.
