Using FCP HD, I have a clip with lighting that fluctuates from dim to bright. I tried dragging the range selection tool over part of the clip in the timeline, then using the CC filter, but the filter changes the entire clip. What obvious thing am I missing? Thanks!
I could be wrong, but I don't think that the range selector lets you select a portion of a particular clip. I think it is used for selecting as many clips in a row that you want.
In your situation I would just use the razor blade to chop the clip where it changes, then select the clip that you want to put the filter on.
Razor seems to contradict what I read, BUT also seems like it would work! Thanks. I'll try it.
Semi-OT, but am I right in realizing (too late) that my heavy reliance on making subclips cost me the opportunity to apply transitions between them? Looks like FCP doesn't see extra frames from the original clip as usable for the transition, and I get a little "X" next to the cursor when I try to apply it. Too bad, because subclips work well for the way I organize things.
Powerdog, you need to read the manual. You can remove subclip limits which would allow you to do the transitions. Also useful if you decide you need more of the clip to edit with. As overwhelming as the manual looks, it has some very useful information.
Yeah, hope i didn't come off sounding judgemental. What I meant was I tried for the longest time to avoid going through the bohemoth of a manual that comes with FCP and finally I gave in one day and started to get into it and so many things started to make sense. There are some good books out there too and video tutorials which do a good job explaining some of the things that may not always be clear in the manuals.
