Random Colour Question

Photoshop seems to using different colours than every other program I have.. My image is much darker when opened in Photoshop.. the way I want it too look.. but suddenly the image brightens up when viewing it Preview.. or DVD studio Pro...

I am not the most astute PS user.. so I don't know how to colour manage properly.. but shouldn't the colour space be perserved in the actual PSD file? when I open that in Preview it looks wrong... does PS do something I am not aware??

EDIT: A quick trip to Mr. Color Settings explained all.. I really need to look before I ask...

the gamma was indeed messing with me...

all is well... though I wish I had an NTSC monitor to preview the picture on to make sure it looks right on there
