RAM Preview

I was taking a tutorial yesterday. I got through it until the instructor said to do a RAM Preview of what we had just built. The instructor said to click the stage, hit tilda, and then press 0 on the number keypad to preview the animation. However, when I hit zero nothing happened. But, when I hit the spacebar, I could see it. What's the difference between hitting 0 and the spacebar?

For 'RAM Preivew' I do the stupid menu selection... The other thing I forget is to set the working area down to something 'reasonable' for the preview...

Hitting the spacebar doesn't playback the animation in real time. With RAM preview AE will load the frames into RAM and play them back at realtime.

"0" toggles the RAM preview between rendering and playback, so hitting "0" will start a RAM preview and "0" again will play back what's been temporarily rendered to RAM. Spacebar just tries to chug through the comp but it is very slow. You can also save RAM previews once you've rendered them which can be useful.

You can see what's going on in your info palette so you know how the preview is going, and you get a status bar above your timeline as well that will turn green.
