RAM and scratch disks

Hi,

I'm upgrading my pc at the moment and I currently have 12gb RAM. Since I want to run Premiere and Resolve, I'm going for 24gb RAM or maybe 32. Will I still need a dedicated HD for scratch or is the RAM able to handle it by itself?

Thanks

You always want some space for scratch, and you'll get the best performance if it's on a dedicated drive. RAM and scratch disk space are handled differently, and while having not enough RAM will use more scratch disk space, having infinite RAM won't make your scratch needs go away.

I usually set systems up with 120gb drives for that. Although in my experience is substantially less important than having good r/w speed on your main media disks (i.e. RAID 0 with fast drives).
