Rain Slicker

Re: Rain Slicker

Yes, the Abel look nice, I'm looking for one too and may be one that can help a little bit (may be I can sew a lining) with the cold weather here in the North land.

Thanks for the links.

Re: Rain Slicker

The only problem with it that I can see is rain will still easily get on the lens. It's not like rain comes down in straight lines. Having a cover over the lens, similar to a mattebox seems like it would be more protection.

I like the look and price of the Abel Store one.

I'm squinting and I can hardly see it.

Disjecta, please let us know what you go and your review.

Good point. Yes, with the kata, the rain does still get on the lens. you can cup the lens a little with the fabric, but it is a bit of an issue.

the abel looks promising, though the pict is so freakin' small.

Re: Rain Slicker

Okay, I went with the Abel Store one. I'll let you know how it works out.

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Rain Slicker

I just bought the kata yesterday from evs. Disjecta: You think you could post us some bigger pics of the abel, if ya get a chance? Hope it works for ya!

Re: Rain Slicker

Yes, reviews... I need to order a cover in the next 2 weeks (shoot at the beach coming up soon).

Re: Rain Slicker

I got the PRC-DVX by Petrol. It's the one listed under the BH Photo link but the picture is different. Here is the correct pic:

(it's halfway down the page, on the left, labeled prc-dvx)
here's what it looks like on the other side:

My review: well, I haven't actually used it yet, but i put it on the camera and checked it out. It was really hard to put it on the camera because the hole for the eyepiece is sooooo tight. But then again this is probably a good thing since you don't want water running down there. Just don't plan on being able to throw the slicker on real quick in a sudden downpour. Maybe when I've done it a few times it will be quicker. Other than that, it looks and feels really good. the black cover over the top of the lens is really good. I would recommend it.
Oh, and get it from Rush at EVS, he's really good. He helped me out without pushing anything. Plus you get the dvxuser discount ;D

Re: Rain Slicker

Looking forward to the review. The Abel looks like it will do well keeping moisture off the lens. There's so much beautiful snow falling around here that it's a crime not to shoot it, but there's no way I'm letting it hit my DVX!

Re: Rain Slicker

Suprateam,

Do you think I can fit my Senn ME-66 inside the cover? From the reverse shot you showed, it seems I'd be limited to the Panasonic short shotgun.

Anyone have ideas if I want to use the ME66 for what case to get?

Re: Rain Slicker

I don't think you can use the sennheiser mic inside the petrol. that pic i linked is pretty accurate. I just measured that part of the slicker and you only have about 10cm to play around with for a shotgun mic. I don't plan on using a shotgun when I film in the snow (snowboard vids don't need much sound) so it doesn't affect me. check the kata

Re: Rain Slicker

anyone get theirs yet? I'm interested in the Abel One, but Jarred's opion carries much weight.

Jarred, Is it nice and roomie? Is it easy to put on quickly? Is it something you can leave on for added protection?

Re: Rain Slicker

my understanding of the petrol vs the kata vs the portabrace was that the latter is geared best for handheld and tripod whereas the previous 2 are mainly for use on stix. also, portabrace has made b'cast covers for years (and they're still made in vt, aren'y they?) ;)

Re: Rain Slicker

Hey Dis, maybe you haven't used it yet, but could you give us some impressions about the rain cover you purchased? Thanks!

Re: Rain Slicker

I love it, it works really well. Took it out in the rain the other day. Sets up in a matter of seconds and folds down quite nicely into a bag that comes with it. The plastic "hood" over the lens really protects it from raindrops.

Highly recommended...and a good price too.
