I just bought the Porta-Brace cover for this camera but I do have questions about it actually keeping the camera dry because of all of the velcro & sections... etc.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Should I just go see Blue Man Group and keep my poncho?
I have used my Portabrace about 50 times shooting on boats and only a few times in a very light drizzle............So far so good! I am on fast boats with a lot of spray .......it's done a good job of keeping the baby dry! I have had to rubberband down the sunshade, by bending it over in 1/2 so it stays out of picture..........my main complaint! I hear there is a better slicker that will accomodate XLR cords better.........A right angle connector would probbly do the trick though!
I have the Kata rain cover and it seals up the camera really good. You can even have your LCD monitor flipped out with the cover on too. I just used it last week as I was getting some shots of lightening during a thunderstorm.
I have the Porta Brace. It is ok. I agree with Mort that the lil sunshade gets in the way. Shooter you like chasing storms? I got some great Tornado video.. im making a storm chaseing documentary. Any great lightening shots?? Im not al that excited about the Porta Brace. i mean it is well made but it is a pain in th ass.. Im sure it works good for drizzle and i get a few of those
Naaa I wasn't chasing storms...I am working on a project and the title of the event is Thunder Jams and I thought it would be cool to produce a open with lightening strikes and thunder. I wasn't able to capture the actual bolts to the ground strikes as my safety was of the upmost importance! LOL!
AE will make some killer lightning for ya. espescially if its the pro version with the "advanced lightning" plugin. does a great job, and is easy to composite in the scenes.
I just got AE from a friend and I was in Border's Books looking at some of the AE books and I tell ya...that software looks complicated! Then again I said the same about Final Cut Pro when I first got it.
