Rain Machine...ideas?

Set up an inverted sprinkler rig, similair to the fire sprinklers in buildings?

I think you're asking for trouble to do an interior rain scene.
A couple of things come to mind, one is electrical. The other is that because you're using talent, not only do you have to make it rain, you have to make WARM rain. I have done probably about 100 jobs with rain, exterior and interior. They are messy, cold, miserable jobs.
On Patriot Games they had 55 gallon barrels with warm water circulating to keep us warm between shots.
I hate working in the rain and it's worse dealing with talent.

Mav, which scenes are you talking about in Patriot Games. Just curious because I watched it again two days ago

You know, I have never seen the movie. I think it may be the end sequence. It was when Harrison Ford dives into the water. We shot it at Paramount in their outdoor tank. It was probably about 40 degrees at night.
Another pretty cool one was The Hunt for Red October. Talk about surreal. It wasn't raining, but we were inside of the mockup sub (which had sunk the week before). A buddy of mine and myself were supposed to be the last two out of the sub. They had about 70 Russian extras that didn't speak English.
The Sub started sinking (it was on gimbals). Now the sub interior is just wood and steel grating inside. It gimbals and the water starts rising. First to your ankles, then to your shins, up to the thighs. We are waiting for all of the Russians to get out and most of them are panic stricken and speaking Russian. Did I mention it is still nearly dark outside?
Spooky, then we get outside and they had 4 huge tugs going in circles around the set creating waves about 6 feet high, 6 ritter fans with firehoses going. It was the full "Victory at Sea" moment. We were in real Russian uniforms with kapok life jackets that we weren't sure were going to work because they were dated.
