Rain Covers

I use a Kata with my DVX. Well made and works great. Openings for lens, mic, eyepiece, plus access through a moveable and adjustable sleeve.

Thanks DCERVENKA, I was looking for that thread before I posted but I couldn't find it!

After reviewing the thread I ordered from Abel, should be here in a week or so. :)

We'll do. It will give me a good excuse to blow the dust off that digital camera that's buried around here somewhere!

A no-frills option for quick protection that works great is to take a portion of the plastic from the dry cleaners that protects your clothing and wrap your camera with that. It's see-through, thin, pliable, and you can pull it out of your back pocket!

Soulfabric,

Yup! That works in a pinch... quite well actually because that type of plastic is really easy to shape. For me I need to have a little higher profile looking deal because I will be working with clients alot. But great suggestion for anyone not needing to worry about looking spiffy! :)

I understand the dry cleaner bag isn't for every shoot - but it is good one to be able to pull out of your bag of tricks in an emergency, no?! Too bad there's not a better picture of the abel store cover you posted. Let us know which you go with.

Cheers -

Zac

I got the Rain Jacket today, its actually the highly elusive and near mythical Panasonic AG-YURC 100!

Its really a pretty good piece of gear overall. It won't fit my ME66 but I kinda expected that as its a fairly long mic for the 100A.

My biggest beef is how much I got hosed by UPS for brokerage fees into Canada... $40 bucks!! I nearly hit the guy!

Back to the jacket... @&#$* UPS...

If you still want pics let me know and I'll get some out! :)

OK Here are some pics of the Rain Cover from Panasonic:

Notice the stunning slim designer case, sure to be a hit at any party!

Control side view: LOTS of zippers and velcro. You can adjust for multi purposes eg. sealing up the camera, accessing the controls, opening the LCD etc.

Sorry about the crappy pic, the camera wouldn't focus with all the plastic. But you get the idea, the LCD is fully opened and fully contained top and bottom. It is a bit akward though.

Showing access. This pic was hard to take by myself without falling over taking the picture and keeping my hand on the panny.

Other side. It too has zipper access to change tapes.

Front view. Plastic visor velcos on (could use a little draw string as a tweak though) ME66 is too big for this jacket (with the foam on it poked out 2 inches). Would be great with a shorter mic.

Top View. That is a flap on the top behind the visor that lifts up if you want to attach a light to the camera. Also behind it there is a little pocket to stach your... umm... keys?

Anyway thats about it, I hope that solves some of the mystery for the Panny aka: Able Rain Cover. Its well made, a little tricky to get on at first, but if you want it to fit well (which it does) then you have to expect that I guess.

There is lots of room to move when you get your hand in there to make adjustments. The only oversight I found was access to turn the camera on after the cover is in place, and from there on you'll have to use the record button on the handle at the top of the camera (no big deal).

There you go!

Panasonic's marketing

Panasonic's marketing

Panasonic's staff will surely not be ragarded as a bunch of marketing gurus. This is actually the first time that I see a number of pictures of this rain cover although have been looking everywhere with great interest

And as it turns out it seems to be absolutely the best one out there! Well designed and great looking. I will be buying this one. Thanks so much for the picture.
