rain cover advice?

Has anyone had any experience with the Ewa-marine rain cape for the DVX? Here's a link: http://www.ewa-marine.de/english/raincapes/e-vc2000.htm#

I have searched the forum and found comments on the Portabrace, and the Kata CRC-14, but couldn't find much on the Ewa-marine version. I like the look of it because the camera is encased in clear pvc so you can see exactly what's going on, plus, the velcro opening on the top of the Kata just doesn't inspire me with confidence!

However, I am a bit worried about not being able to adjust a filter (I almost always use a polariser) once the rain cape is in place. I emailed the distributor who said that filter adjustment would be difficult but not impossible, and I'm not exactly sure what that means. Also, any opinions on whether there would be enough room to connect your external mic via the XLR ports?

Any comments greatly appreciated!

I have the Kata version that you talked about, its good so far, i can throw it on with a shotgun mic and the tele-converter lens as well.

I myself wouldn't feel comfortable taking it out in a serious downpour(even though the velcro opening on top seals as about as tight as they can get and it is possible to just fold it over so any rain wouldnt penetrate the cover), but i bought it more or less to shoot in windy conditions where there will be a lot of dust and sand blowing around.

I'd also check with ewa marine about putting wide or zoom lenses on your camera with there rain cover. Hope that helps a bit.

Any info on how extended periods in high humidity (24-48 hrs in the rain) effect the DVX? (I have to capture a weekend of activitity, probably undercover so no direct rain contact, but outside the entire time in high humidity.)

I have the kata cover and use it with two lav recievers squished in there, and operate with the top handle and look at the LCD not the view finder.

I also use my 4x4 mattebox (on the outside with the draw strings pulled tight around the filter tray area)

- In this configuration my matte box gets soaked, but the camera and actual lens stay pretty dry.

I have used this set up in heavy downpour shooting a fishing show where I was stuck on a boat ALL day in the rain more then once.

So my conclusions are - the DVX can handle getting wet :P

As good as the rain cover is, a fair bit of water and humidity still get in.
But if you keep it to a minimum, the camera doesn't mind some drops on the outside and around the top area. Just watch out for the electronics on the side and keep the exposed audio/power connectors dry...
you will also want to plan to clean the heads following ashoot like this.

Thanks for your advice, guys. I spoke to the distributor today who said that there would be plenty of room under the cape for the XLR leads, and that I should be able to adjust my polariser once the cape is on. He was not able to guarantee that the front port of the cape wouldn't vignette into shot if I had a filter on the camera, so that's the only thing that still worries me a bit.
