Rail-support

I'm building my own rail-support and I'm just wondering...

I know the rods are typically 15 mm and I think the distance from the center of each rod is 60 mm - right?

Can some of you confirm that this is the most widely adopted standard? I'd be happy to hear about sizes from people owning different systems - including matteboxes like the chrosziel, cavision and vocas.

I'll propably also be machining a rails-mount for the Formatt FM500 mattebox I have :-)

Yes, it is 60mm at least for Cavision, Petroff, Vocas, Chrosziel and Century.
Another thing is that there might be an industry standard of optical axis too. From rod center to optical axis of the lens it might be 85mm, somebody please confirm that.

I think that depends on the camera, actually. However - I want my baseplate to be adjustable in both the x, y and z-plane in order for it to work with an HVX (or other cameras) when I decide (meaning I can afford) to upgrade. I'm thinking about doing a similar approach as the one used on steadicams to adjust the baseplate...

Toenis, you're spot on. The optical axis is also a standard (85mm) for most mattebox manufacturers.
