RAID 0 versus USB 3.0 single drive

I didn't see anyone mentioning this in the HDD sticky.

With the new USB 3.0 does anyone know if a RAID 0 1TB drive with eSATA connection would be faster for video editing than a 1TB single drive with a USB 3.0 connection??

I can't find any speed specs out there and was curious. Thanks!

I don't know the exact answer but unless the USB drive is SSD SATA III then would they not be using drives with the same speed. If that is the case then the RAID 0 eSata would be faster depending on your eSata connection speed. Then again you could RAID 0 two USB 3.0 drives right?

The big issue I have with Raid 0 is theres no redundancy and if it goes - its gone. But for many the speed of raid 0 is the big attraction. To Oaken, Id be fairly certain that an external raid through esata is going to be considerably faster than a single USB 3.0 drive. Though at this stage of the game you may well be better off with two 1tb USB 3.0 drives and backing up one to the other.

Then again if none of what youre doing is critical, maybe raid 0 is worth the risk.

I figured the RAID would beat out a single USB 3.0 but there's still data on it anywhere. I'm just talking hypothetically here, for editing off of a external hard drive, which would beat out. If redundancy didn't matter, pure speed. For the record I have only one 3.0 slot that is also the eSATA slot. Or else I'd get a RAID 0 for the eSATA and a backup on the 3.0. But I'm not that cool.
