R.E.M. On Tour - INCREDIBLE

Last night a buddy took me to Raleigh to see R.E.M. in concert.

It had been a couple of years (10) since I had listened to R.E.M. but they were incredible and now I find myself asking why I stopped listening to them. Michael Stipe, who always seems like this shy introverted overly political dude put on an incredible show and was like a rock god.

Right away this goes into my top 3 shows of all time.

I highly recommend checking it out if you get an opportunity.

Michael Stipe had a book signing the other day on Sunset Blvd. Me and a buddy were walking by and saw all these people standing in line that wrapped around the block.

Stipe is a demi-god. I saw some of their shows back in the day. Last one being the Monster tour, I think. So much energy. What I wouldn't give to go back into the 80's and see them in a bar somewhere on the Murmur tour.

I really disliked the last 2 albums. Maybe even 3. But they have such an amazing back-catalog.

Aww... I missed them when they came through here last month. :( That would have been cool. I've seen U2 in concert several times, but always seem to just miss REM. We used to try to stock them when I lived in Seattle. Can't remember which one, but one of their spouses owns The Crocodile and they used to play there under a cover name whenever they were in town.

Someday...

Thanks for the review! I've been meaning to pick up their new album, too.

Saw them at William & Mary around Holloween, '84 or '85. The stage set was like what you would see at an elementary school play. Somehow it just fit though. The music was great. Stipe actually stopped the concert at a point where a bunch of kids were getting stupid in the front rows and horsing around. Pretty cool. Here is this nerdy geeky little dude chastising these kids for being stupid and making it clear they ain't gonna play if they don't behave. Gotta give him credit for that.

Saw Michael Stipe come out and do a song with Radiohead at their concert a few years back, was pretty cool.
