&quot ???

Contrast

Hi, I am new to the forum and computer culture as well. I figure one or both of these factors is why I don't have a clue what quot or &quot mean. My searches and contextual studies have failed me. Help?

It's short for "quote" and signifies the double-quote ( " ) symbol. And since that symbol used as part of HTML code, it has to be "spelled out" in raw web code.

Web browsers then translate it back into the " symbol for us to read, but sometimes it doesn't work, and you end up with something like "Hello"

This is also true for other punctuation marks like "&," which as you notice, is part of the code itself(!), and when used in text it is spelled out as "&" (being short for ampersand).

You'll only ever see this when the code is not "translated" correctly (which I guess happens more often than you'd think). :-)

Thank you very much Sir Noble Robot. So to clarify this sentence ;
(1) The Focus switches should be set to "A" (autofocus).

it would be set to A (with quotation marks on either side of the A) ?
