Quictime for 4:3 to 16:9?

I filmed a project in 4:3 mode on my DVX and edited it in final cut on a normal timeline and then I applied the widescreen filter at a 1.78:1 ratio how do I export it so that the black bars are cropped off of the film and that it is translated as widescreen footage when I play it on a dvd?

nest the 4:3 timeline in an anamorphic timeline, scale it up, and export from there...
