Quicktime to DVD using...???

Hi, I have a real mess figuring whats the bet way to fit a Quicktime file (79 Gb) into a 4.7 Gb ordinary DVD. Each program encodes MPEG2 as it wants
The fact is when I use iDVD it compresses it to 1.6Gb , leaving unused 3.1 Gb (!!!).
Then with DVD SP it goes a little up with 2.1Gb, leaving the rest unused.
When I go to Toast it works a little better using 3.4 Gb, but it really looks terrible!!
I don't know if using Compressor may help in any way...but what can I do to get the whole DVD space used? OR get the best quality available...please urgent answers or advices needed around here...
Thanks for your patience

Use compressor, it'll tell you roughly how large the file size will be before you encode the MPEG 2. So you can keep upping the bandwidth till you get the most efficient encode and data usage. Be sure to leave enough room for menus and AC3 file.

I usually do MPEG2: 2 PASS VBR 7MBS - 8.5MBS, frame controls off.
