Quicktime + PP2 Errors

Hi

I've had to export a movie for a client for the first time in quick time, so i downloaded the normal quicktime and put that on my pc. tryed to export my movie as quick time and it didn't work. PP2 said unknowen error compiling movie. so after a bit of reserch i found a lot of people saying that you needed quicktime pro. so i bought it. it isn't much really so i figuered it was more than i was getting paid for the job so i could pay for a codec to make sure they got what they asked for and then i would be able to do it for future clients as well.

Now i have to hand the video over tomorrow. and even though i have quich time pro 7 i still cant get it to export the movie. same error. it says "error compiling movie" or if i get to it though Adobe media encoder it says "Api error". i have also exported my film as an uncompressed AVI, imported it into After Effects and tryed exporting from their. I thought i was in luck with this one because i actually managed to get a whole export with no issues. but then i watched the file, and it looked like it had been though a meat grinder. The Idents on the start of the film were all screwed up, the edges of thin lines that were sharp have now become pixilated and blocky. i'm pretty sure i used the right codecs and settings. I've been told that the best codec to use for QT is the Animation codec, i'm 99% certain every other seting has been corect for every export that i have tryed because i used the native frame rates and pixle aspect ratiios.

I did read on the some where out there on all the forums i've been to that Adobe Software in CS2 version won't allow you to export from quicktime to a file size larger than 2gig or something like that. i'm expecting file sizes around the 7.5 gig mark, but i don't know how relyable this info is. if anyone can confirm that this is correct can you offer any solutions to this problem of file size limmit. (thinking about it i will check to see if i can export small portion of this film into a small QT file). But still i cant see how this helps me when i need to produce a whole film for someone rather than just bits of it.

thanks in advance for any help anyone could offer. sorry this post is so long but its been a long day and i really wanted to make sure that i told you guys everything that i tryed before posting so that hopefully someone will know the right answer.

jay

PS i have already tryed all the reinstalations that could possibly make a difference, and none of them did.

I've never heard of the Animation codec but did you try h.264? That's the codec most people used.

ok but i can't even get QT pro to play an uncompressed AVI. and i don't want to use the DV codec because it loses quality. does anyone know any other good lossles codecs that i could use to export from PP2 then use quicktime to convert the AVI file.

thanks

Try importing the PP project file into AE and render out .avi uncompressed from there. Might work better than going through AE with an .avi.

thanks everybody for all your advice. after talking about it with the tech guys on the other end it turn's out that they were going to compress it to .FLV at their end any way so i have done it for them. there making an interactive CD with this video content embeded in it.

thanks for all your advice, but i still never managed to get a decent export out of quick time. i did manage to get it export a couple of times but even then it looked really pixilated, all the straight line had gone pixilated along diagonals. dunno whats up with it. but my imidate problem is fixed, but i would still like to get it working as i paid for it.

the reason i have been using the "Animation codec" is that it's supposedly completly lossles (acording to a tech guy on the forums at adobe). they recomend any renders before the final output be done with this codec. i don't really know if this is right though.

I've always use Uncompressed AVI settings, but they were saying that you could get smaller file sizes and the same quality using QT animation.

Any words of Wizdom welcom
