hello everyone,

i am having a problem with exporting sequences to adobe encoder. everytime i use quicktime h264 for hd files it comes out degraded. Like youtube quality but the resolution/aspect ratio is kept intact. wmv files come out good but interlaced. im shooting 60i but sending to 29.97 and sometimes 23.796(24p). regardless nothing comes out good either be quicktime or windows media player.

has anyone experienced similar problems? no matter what i do even raise the the bit rate the quality still comes out very poor.

Would anyone mind shading a light on a way to get premiere to encode quicktime hd files right? for web preview and size/bandwidth is not a matter.

thanks in advance.

I've never tried exporting QT files out of Premiere, but I use premiere and bought QT Pro - a $30 investment - and use that to make QT files, works fantastic.

Same issues experienced here with H264 encode in PP2. Not only did the resulting H264 encode look bad, it had a luma shift to very bright, like overexposed footage. It may be possible to get a good encode, I just have not been able to achieve it.

Like Jmtasu suggests, QT Pro also recommended to me by a few other PP2 users. The best QT output I could get from PP2 was to encoding to the MPEG-4 codec. Big files, yet the best I can do for now.

If you need quicktime compatible files on the PC, DO NOT USE QUICKTIME.

I know it sounds silly, but you'l get much better results from a program like Megui or Staxrip.

(use the ce-quicktime profile for video and make sure you have aac set as your audio output in an .mp4 container)

Not to mention they're free.

How to get QT in PP2

How to get QT in PP2

Premiere Pro exports to QT are useless. They simply don't know how to handle H.264+AAC. The only way I have been able to get decent youtube videos (QT is the only format thet gets high quality in youtube) is to export to Apple Animation, open the file oin QT Pro, and exort it to H.264+AAC. That is great. Adobe should fix this workflow issue, for it adds hours of work and waiting.

I got QT Pro and use it on my PC all the time. Works very well. I dont know what Demistate is talking about when he says not to use QT on a PC.

Hey Guys, Now this is my opinion only... The best codec to use for Youtube is an FLV file. It is what youtube converts the file to anyway. If you use a program like Sorenson you'll get the best result using this file format because there is no conversion in most cases. I have uploaded 5 minute videos and have seen results in seconds. No processing. Think about it, no conversion.
I have also found that this has been discussed in earlier posts. In some cases (1mbs) files tend to take a little longer to view because the file is buffering however, you end up with the best possible looking video. I have tried the .mov thing with QT files using QT and I find that Flash files, .FLV are the best for quality. IMHO... that is...
