quicktime compression quality problem...

hi, I'm trying to make my 24pA movie footage into a quicktime movie so I can send it to a guy that will use after effects and add some effects for me.

I'm wondering which export>quicktime conversion settings are best? The footage was shot usin squeeze, DVX100b and 24pA.

I've herd of some H.262 (or whatever) thing, or should I just do the NTSC/DV whatever thing? or...what?

I'm looking for something to make the movie the best quality so when the guy sends me my footage back with the after effects-effects on it, I can pop it back into my movie's timeline and viola! then burn to DVD and so on.

one problem I've been having is the footage in the quicktime movie has horizontal lines every 5 or so frames, looking like garbage.

thanks a bunch!

i wouldnt use any compression and just output it using the standard DV codec.

in FCP export QT movie current settings (not QT conversion) check make movie self contained box

this is if your friend is on the mac platform and not pc

(1) If you haven't done anything to the footage yourself (effects, color correction, etc.) then as mentioned, just send him a Quicktime Movie (File > Export > Quicktime Movie) and it will be in the DV Codec. This will be fine on both Mac or PC (the DV codec is an open codec).

(2) As for the problem you're having, are you only seeing this on your computer monitor? If so, don't fret, computer monitors aren't meant for QC. If you video out from your computer to a broadcast monitor (or TV if you must) you can get a better idea as to whether or not you're actually having any kind of problem.

cheers.

thanks, I'll do the quicktime method.

however 2 small problems remain: the horizontal lines appear even when I play the movie on my TV after burning it to a disc to test it.
(this is with the non-quicktime method)

and second...the export>quicktime movie saves the file in a way that it always opens with FCP. is that okay if my friend doens't have FCP? Perhaps it's only doing that because I have it on my computer, but for someone else it'll be just quicktime?
