Quicktime component???

I have some quicktime files that I am trying to open up in quicktime player. I get a blank screen with audio and a message that the video might need an additional component to play. Then it sends me to a website where there are about 8 "components". How do I know which component i need, to watch/use this footage?
the footage cant be imported into FCP4.5 either. just get an error message.

You're going to need to ask the people who gave you the source files, what they used to encode the file. My best guess is Avid DNxHD codecs. You can download those from Avid's website.

Since you have FCP on a mac, you should have most of the HD codecs built in. However, since you have version 4.5 there may have been new codecs added to version 5 and 6. You'll need to doubble check on Apple's knowledgebase to see if there are more codecs added.
