In the whirlwind of Apple-Intel talks, Jobs also said Quicktime 7 for Windows would be released today. It's not up yet, but here's a heads up.

And yes, it is pretty amazing. :)

Just finished downloading... WOW!

+ finally no annoying screen blinking on Matrox Parhelia!
+ very fine thing about smooth resizeing.
+ hd codec is great! (Batman in 1080p looks amazing!)
+ the new codec (h.264) looks great!

- no minuses so far...

//definitely buying the pro version!

I haven't had a chance to check this out yet. How can I encode my films with the new codec? Do they provide a tool, are there other encoders? I use Vegas, is there a codec I can embed within the app?

good question Larry, I would like to know this as well. Will the h264 output option show up in Premiere if I get qt7 pro?

Holy %&$*#!!, the H.264 codec is a frickin' miracle. I tested compressing an AVI yesterday and I could not tell the difference between the original and the H.264...but get this....

Original avi file: 127mb
Quicktime H.264 file: 1.4mb

Unbelievable.

This is what I am saying....it's unbelieveable

Now obviously I would want to test more than one file but the results have been very encouraging.

If you get the Pro version, the new codec shows up in Vegas.

Vegas still says Quicktime 6, though. Hmmm...I guess that's to be expected.

And I didn't actually try the H.264 yet. I just checked to see if it was there in the list.

That doesn't seem possible.

Are you sure it didn't just create a "hint" file, with pointers to the original?

The codec is pretty good, but I don't think it's that much better than wmv9. It's so slow, though. I can run wmv9 at 1080p/24fps no problem, but h264 stutters a ton. Apple's site even says there are no PCs fast enough to run it! (And the only macs which can run it are dual 2ghz g5s and faster.)

Imo, someone needs to tweak their code and make this thing faster. It's a great codec, otherwise, and I think hardware decompression is coming soon, too.

wtf?!!!

It runs smooth on my 400MHz G4... and why would Apple make a Windows version and announce on their site that no PCs are fast enough to run it?
