Quickstream, 24pa Anamorphic & Final Cut Pro

Pardon me if this has been answered somewhere. I can't find it if it is.

Anyone know what the settings in FCP should be for using Quickstream captured footage @24pa with the Panasonic anamorphic lens?

I tried a 23.98 advanced pulldown timeline but needs rendered. I tired it with both the anamorphic settings and without. I also tried a standard anamorphic 29 timeline. That works, but I know it's not removing the advanced pulldown.

I have DV Film Maker, would this be the best option? That might kinda suck because all the footage would have to be recaptured like I was working from tapes. Well, almost.

The reason you probably need to render is because your sequence settings don't match your capture settings (presets).

First off, before you capture make a duplicate of the Pulldown Removal preset. When you edit this copy obviously change the name and make sure that anamorphic is checked. Save the preset you have just created.

Now, capture using that preset you have created. Make sure your preset is selected, or you won't capture using it.

After you capture everything right click (ctrl+click) on your sequence in your bin. The default is obviously "Sequence 1" (sorry I don't know your experience, just want to try to be ultra clear). After you open the Sequence settings make sure the frame rate is 23.98 and the anamorphic 16:9 checkbox is checked.

Hopefully now, you probably do not need any sort of rendering. If these problems are happening to you, first thing you need to do is match your Capture Settings to your Sequence Settings.

Rock on, good luck :)

Hope this helped!

Oh wait,
You have a quickstream, thats right. You may need to render then because your footage is already digitized. You can use Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown. Sorry :P

or you can highlight all your quickstream clips in the browser and go to: tools>remove advanced pulldown.

LOL, or you can do that! I have never used the Quickstream, so I have no clue how it works... :D

yeah, too bad fcp doesn't work like vegas where it can remove pulldown on the fly once placed on the timeline... :-/

Oh cool, that's a sweet feature. I wish Final Cut could do that...where the hell is apple on this one?!

Thanks Guys!

Kyle,

When you just remove pulldown with the tools feature, it doesn't appear to be widescreen. When I do it with Film Maker (Not converted to widescreen, mind you) it comes up as a widescreen clip. It seems to work great, but adds another step.

In other words, if I import the raw footage from the Quickstream and use the tools in FCP to remove the pulldown, it does in fact address the pulldown issue. However, the footage is in 4:3 even in a 16:9 sequence. If I do the conversion in Film Maker, the footage has pulldown removed and it's in 16:9. Weird! Like I said, it works, but adds another step killing the direct edit convience in this case.

That is really messed up...In the sequence settings 16:9 is most definately checked? ???

Re: Quickstream, 24pa Anamorphic & Final Cut P

Have you checked to make sure that all of your clips are flagged as anamorphic in the browser. One of the many columns is a little check box or something like that that you mark to denote an anamorphic clip so that it will be native to your correct anamorphic sequence setting and you shouldn't have to render. My bad if you've already done this...
Hope it helps.
