quick time

I have been trying to use a "full-windwos" system for 4 years, since I had some very bad experience with a quick time player. I use wmv and try to avoid mov formats. but now I need the codec of the QT. I 've searched it on the web and I have found that I will need to download the qt player too with it.
does anybody know tricks not to download the player?

Quicktime is some of the most harmless (if worst-coded, at least in the case of h264's pc optimization) software in the world. Just download the player. It won't hurt your computer.

I just downloaded the player. Not only is it nagware, but now you have to download itunes as well to get quicktime...

this is an interesting perspective. anyone else have similar thoughts?

I have been trying to assess the wisdom of utilizing QT7 for clients and prospective clients. h264 looks nice and all, though it is not a very smooth process for many and the stuff with the itunes, email login, and even for mac users you have to be at least at OS 10.3.9--seems to be pushing it.

on the other hand, for the new Flash Player 8, the experience is like this:

system requirements are comparatively pretty low:

Flash player 8 >> window 98 QuickTime >> windows 2000/xp
Flash player 8 >> mac os 10.1 QuickTime>> mac os 10.3.1

took me less than 2 minutes to install FP8 without the nag stuff or restarting.

needlessly flustering people in the business world is really frowned upon.

Did they always make you do the iTunes thing and email thing. pretty sad, apple.

I have quicktime, as well as "quicktime alternative" installed. Google it, it uses media player classic to play .mov files. It's less intrusive, although it doesn't play everything

Oh, and the Hot Pix can be disabled by going: EDIT/PREFERNCES/PLAYER PREFERENCES, the uncheck "Show HOT PIX at start up".

Also, the program will want to make qttask.exe start each time you run your computer. It is a tray icon program, non essential, and can be made not to run also.
