Quick Start Problem

I've started capturing yesterday at school on Final Cut 4.
My short was shot on 24p advance. The setting was set on 24 frames when capturing maybe I need to change that to 23.98?. When I shot the video the shutter speed was on 1/24. But don't see any problems when watching it.

Everything looked fine when the capturing was being made. But when I tooked the captured work from the school's G5 into my laptop. The footage looks bad, there is buzzing of the video, just doens't look good at all. :'(

Any of you know what could be wrong, any settings on final cut 4 I should look for when capturing 24pa.

Thanks

Re: Quick Start Problem

I was told to capture at 29.97 fps then let FCP remove the pull down and change your timeline to 24 fps.

Does this sound correct?

Re: Quick Start Problem

And then I was told to do this:

audio/video settings should be at:

sequence setting to 23.98
Capture settings to 23.98 (2:3:3:2 advance pulldown removal)
Device control to Firewire NTSC NDF

If you can upgrade to FCP HD do so. It's free and will really help.

Re: Quick Start Problem

If your sure you shot 24P ADVANCED then the above settings is correct. Otherwise you can capture normal 24p at 29.97 with no problem.

I have set it to this.. and it looks way better... but the thing is I can't change the 2:3:3:2 advance pulldown removal when I switch the setting to 23.98...

not sure why?

Re: Quick Start Problem

I don't know what's going, when I do the 2:3:3:2 pulldown it switches my capture to 29.97, it won't let me switch to 23.98. ???

Re: Quick Start Problem

I'm not sure what problem your having. If you have shot in 24pa mode (F6) and capture with Advanced Pulldown removal as outlined the clips will be 23.98 automatically. Make your sequence 23.98 as well and drag the clips in.

You might try making a new project from scratch with the settings and try capturing and use a couple of clips.

if you shot 24p (F5) and want 23.98 then you'll have to go through Cinema Tools to remove pulldown

Re: Quick Start Problem

I have the exact same problem. We have 3 short films shot like this and it's driving us crazy. Did you ever figure it out?
