Quick release plates on tripods are proprietary?

I have a 503 head and I need to buy another head. I want to be able to take my cams off of one head and quickly place on another head. So if I have a 503 and have the Bogen quick release plate on my cam then can I only place that on other Bogen heads or does it fit on other heads like Sachlter and Miller?

Bogen plates are as you suspect, incompatable with Sachlter and Miller heads, and vice versa.
Cross brand use is not going to happen.

All quick release plates are also not compatible within a manufacturer. I've used some Bogen heads that wouldn’t take the quick release from the 503... One of them was the 516, but I didn’t expect it to...
