quick question

im using a firewire cord to transfer footage from my dvx to g5. do i turn off the computer then hook up the firewire and turn on the dvx next? what's the process so i wont blow my ports.
 
You won't blow your ports, unless you are some sort of static creature. But if it makes you feel warm and comfy just hook the cable to the computer before you power it on. Then once you're booted plug in the camera and turn it on.
 
crap. the firewire is the wrong one i think. i have the 6pin to 4pin cable by belkin. can i remove the little silver casing around the space where the firewire suppose to hook up on the dvx?

Now for my stupid question....what's a static creature, exactly? Cuz I think I am one. When I get out of my car, if its nighttime, I can touch the metal of my car with the toe of my tennis shoe and see a spark. When I put my house key in the lock to go inside you can actually see a blue arc from the key to the keyhole. Shopping carts at the grocery store pop the poo poo outta me. People look at me funny when I go into stores because I slap the door handle first to discharge so it doesnt hurt so bad when I grab hold to open it. :(

In your case, touch a metal part (probably the frame) on the outside of your computer case before and keep it there while you're plugging the cable into the computer and you'll ground yourself. You could be in some comic book movie, look into X-Men 3, they are probably still trying to cast every character imaginable into that movie.
