Quick Question on Texture

First off, I know this is not directly a video question, however, I feel it has the best chance of being answered in here.

After watching several tutorials, I decided to try and create an Avatar for myself with what basic photoshop skills I have. This is my progress so far...

Original and Edited

I am still working on the edit, and I am going to touch up the nose and some other areas. However, my question is, how can I restore the skin texture of the original photo to the new one with out having to recolor? So basically, how can I texturize the new skin to match the old?

Thanks a bunch!

Eric

You could try blending the original over the edited with different blending modes.

Here's a try I did, shown as you would see them layered in photoshop.

Top layer: (Original photo)
-desaturated to gray
-blending mode = Color Dodge
-Opacity = 70%

Middle layer: (Original photo)
-desaturated to gray
-blending mode = Hard Light
-Opacity = 50%
[I erased the hat and hair on this layer]

Bottom layer (Edited photo, background):
-Blending mode = Normal
-Opacity = 100%

I would use a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer just to change the original color of your skin. I did this with a quick mask and I'm sure if you spent more time than I did (3minutes) you could get it just how you wanted.
