Quick question for the experts....

Hello Gang,
As a new user to Final Cut Studio (FCP 7) I am very impressed with the software. I was a Sony Vegas user (PC based) for my last production and FCS/FCP is far superior. Of course as a new user I have some questions that I would hope you experts can help answer. I have both Class on Demand DVDs for FCS & FCP7 and I have jumped into those head first and learned a lot. Believe it or not my questions are not really covered in those DVDs and maybe you guys can help.

I am using a Panasonic HMC150 to shoot in 1080p 24p. I would like to know if my settings are correct of Final Cut Pro 7. I do Log & Transfer from a SDHC card. Here’s what I currently have:

Sequence Preset: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 24p 48kHz
Capture Preset: DVCPRO HD – 1080pA24 48kHz
Device Control Preset: Non-Controllable Device


Any help on this would be much appreciated. If it matters I have the output to an HD monitor.

Capture preset is for capturing a tape from a tape deck source, so nothing to do with importing HMC150 footage with the Log & Transfer function. Although your capture preset is wrong for your source media, it has no effect on your workflow.
Log & transfer window has a little button on the right side: 'Preferences' , that s where you change the type of transform you want to do for certain codecs(say P2, Canon EOS, AVCHD etc), you can for example choose Prores 422 LT and save a ton of space.
