Quick question bout text and masking

how would i do this...like on a black part of the screen have white text and on a white part of the screen have black text? but have the text combined so when somehting moves in the video clip, the text changes color automatically? i know i have to mask it..but i dunno to put wat on wat if you know what i mean..i use Vegas 5.0

It's tough to say what the best method is without an example.  Can you keyframe the color properties?

If you have no luck there, and you don't want to do it manually, maybe try After Effects -- it's really good for dynamic text effects like this.
