I sure have appreciated that people on this forum are so overbearing even though a lot of us audio noobs keep asking the same question. Also have I enjoyed Chad's and Guy's test videos and I'm pretty sure they had some leverage in terms of me buying what I did.
But one thing I have missed, and that's no stone at you pros by the way, is that I felt like I needed dirty examples of gear used in inappropriate surroundings and "uncommon" way of usage as well.
Therefore I made this quick little test video for people like me to see... mind you, what you're about to see is NOT what an experienced sound guy would advice you in regards to handle sound, nor is it a substitute for bringing a decent sound guy on your shoots, since you can expect a result that is far far better than this.
I merely want to show what it sounds and looks like when you take:
- The Rode NTG-3
put it on
- The Rycote 18cm universal camera kit suspension with mini blimp and furry (in this case only the suspension)
and attach that straight onto
- The Sony FS100
and go straight into the camera, using it's preamps and dialing in the gain on the build in mixer.
The room is less that untreated
kids room with hardwood floors, naked walls and a single thin carpet on the floor.
