Quick lavalier question

I am looking to buy a new or used wireless lavalier set up for my Dvx100a.

I shoot mostly weddings and talking head interviews. I have used a lavalier many times before but never had to purchase one.

Since I'm shooting weddings, it probably needs to be omni directional. My budget is $400, but the cheaper the better as long as quality is not too heavily compromised.

I was wondering if a couple of you kind souls could recommend me some models or links to look at.

I'm basically clueless at this point.

My friend recommended the same model he has Sony UHF Wireless Microphone UTX-B1. Is this a good lavalier?

Thanks

sennheiser ew100 g2 system is the only game in town for entry level wireless that actually works. Unfortunately it is $500 and the stock mic that comes with it is not very good. Don't spend less, try to get one used if you can't spring for new. Replace the stock lav when you can with a countryman EMW wired for G2 (or better).

Thanks for the reply. I find it hard to believe there is nothing out there worth my while at 400 or below. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

The wireless in the sub-$500 category are consumer "toys." Most are VHF and are not frequency agile. When they do work they are noisy and have poor companders. When they don't work...they don't work and your audio is screwed.

Ok for hobbiest but not acceptable for professional work.

While no wireless works 100% of the time, the G2 is going to get you as close to professional reliablity without jumping to the 4 figure neighborhood.

If you can live with your wireless not working a decent amount of the time then other people can chime in with their cheaper wireless preferences.

Cheers

You are about the 1,000th person who can´t believe it. Yet, they all learned one way or the other. If you search "Sennheiser G2" you will find tons of material about your question.

After looking at pro level gear (Lectro SM series and others) I am amazed you can even GET a Lav setup anywhere near $400.

If I was banking my business on having my mics work, especially where something can't be reshot, I'd most certainly be looking at something higher end.

heheh, yup. The only stipulation is the cord into the camera is not the right one for my dvx. But I figure I will just buy one of those else where. This looked like a steal to me, especially with a local pick up.

Thanks guys. One more ignorant dvxuser shown the light.
