Have reasonably good understanding of how to capture 24pa into FCP, or so I thought until today. Once I've captured it and then dragged it into the sequence, should it have the big red line indicating it needs to be rendered?

I thought that if you had the capture settings as the 'advanced 2:3:3:2 pulldown removal', and the sequence settings as '23.98', that you would be all set and wouldn't need to render each clip. Am I wrong?

Re: quick 24pa question

How many sequences do you have open? I ran into that problem the other day but I have 2 sequences for the same project. When I put a clip on the timeline I got the Red Render bar too...I realized I was putting clips in the wrong sequence. When I switched, then added the clips to the correct sequence, the red bar went away. I am editing on a 23.98 timeline as well.

Re: quick 24pa question

I've done the same thing, and noticed in my sequence settings in pulldown removal that the 16:9 anamorphic was checked. Try that. Best- Mike

Re: quick 24pa question

Thanks guys - but unfortunately no dice yet. Neither of those two were the culprits. Anyone else?

Re: quick 24pa question

Control-Click or right click on the main footage icon in the browser and show item properties - format.

Dbl check that indeed you did the pulldown correctly. Does it have 23.98 as the frame rate?

If everything looks right...

Control click the browser and tell it new sequence. Click (not dbl click) that new sequence and hit Apple-Zero. Again, set frame rate etc. OK. dbl click the new sequence and drop a clip.

I'll bet something went wrong in the format of the clip. Is it really 24pA?? Did you really do the pulldown removal?

Sorry... Good luck,

CaptM

Re: quick 24pa question

I had a ton of trouble with this initially. What I found is that FCPHD has a serious problem(in my case anyway) with doing the pull down automatically. I would recommend capturing in standard 48khz NTSC with the secondary setting NTSC NDF(this is for cadence issues) and then using the "reverse telecine" feature in cinema tools to remove the pull down. This is the only way i have been able to reliably get 23.98 clips that were filmed 24pa.
