Questions on the Marantz PMD670

Recording 2 tracks of audio, without timecode. I assume, however, that you're looking more for proper examples, which I'll leave to those with more location experience than I.

It was designed for radio reporters and such but it works fine for just about any two track recording jobs. I would recommend if your buying that you buy the 671 rather than the 670. And truth be told I would recomend the Tascam over the Marantz. Not on quality issues but because support is better and they are about the same price.

But I have a 671 and have used it to record production sound, concerts, and LOTS of FX recording. It's been very durable and a workhorse.

I liked the 671 (owned one for a couple years I guess)... but I sold it to some guy at a bargain price, in order to snag a Tascam HDP2... the HDP2 is significantly more versatile... with TC, and various frame-rates... it makes dumping the audio into a timeline a little more straight forward... keeping track of takes and such.

For the small price difference you gotta' go HD-P2.

The original 670 was intended for reporting and other location sound work of that sort... depositions and stuff... and the 671 was a significant improvement in some areas, such as line in clarity and SN ratio... but the HD-P2 is even better suited to location sound for video... or even location sound without video.
