Questions for Guru's

Just to let you know ahead of time, I do own After Effects, and G5 with FCP HD...

In color correction is there a way to make colors pop, best example I can think of would be Dick Tracy... Any settings people know about?

Has anyone ever come across a Mirage type Heat ripple effect... I would like to add some sort of effect like that over a gutter in a shot I have...

When you desaturate a color, and then reverse the image to produce let's say red lipstick on a female character where everything else in the image is black and white... When she moves around in the frame, will the settings stay in place and follow her??? Or if blood splatters, and i want everything in the image to be B&W except for the little droplets of blood as the splat against a characters face?? anyway to isolate those droplets, have the color stay on it?

Thanks a lot...

for the mirage effect try using a displacement map in ae check out the tutorials over at creative cow i think ther is one on using displacement maps

These effects are no problem or AE and FCP, but they make take some work.

For the "heat wave" I'd generate and animate some noise with fractal noise then use it as a discplacement map over the original image. Getting the right look to the noise is the challenge.

The Color Corrector 3 way in final cut pro is pretty good at selecting one color in a scene, then changing it, but you really have to play around with it a bit. If you have more than one red object and you want to keep on one red, you'll probably have to use after effect's "change color" plug in, coupled with a mask. Or you could use the 8 point garbage matte in Final Cut Pro, but both of these solutions require more work.

Check out Ken Stone's site for a lot of great How-To's for FCP, as well as DV Guys. Both sites should be able to answer you question with some great step by step how-to's.

For the color question you're going to need to do color correcting. here is the link on Ken's site:

DV guys has a lot of great general stuff as well as the Hub, which is a program that condenses all the FCP info on the net to one place, it's at:
http://www.dvguys.com

Hope that help.
