Can someone give me some fee back?

- I wanna film (skateboard) video, but i want some of the filming to look old vintage looking, (i dont wanna use after effect to do this). and some other angles to be HD. But I am not sure what is the best way to do this.

Should I use 16mm or 35mm camera to get the best resolution?
If I do then, can you rent 35mm cameras? or what? links

What kind of film camera did they use in "life aquatic with steve zissou"?
I kind of image some footage to look like color in the movie.

P.S. I know it probably wont be cheap to film or rent with 35mm camera,

also does anyone know how they measure the film? with a standard size film how long do you usual have to film on there? thanks

alright.....

i really dont know too much about 35mm camera, i mainly just want to know what the best camera to use to get the cool looking picture from "life aquatic". any ideas? what camera technics etc? i feel that i shouldn't after effects make the picture 8mm looking or what ever, cause you can totaly tell that it is a fake picture.

anyone know a site for renting 35mm camera or whatever? links?

What part of the world are you located in? There are a large number of good rental houses in the LA area.

With your lack of experience in film, I suggest that you hook up with a DP before proceeding. They can guide you in many areas including the rental houses you will work with.

I am right trying to learn as much as i can with filming and camera on forums and i wanna go to a school or just take some class before i try and make my video. but right now, i want to know what kind of camera to get to film with. to do some research on them. also rent houses as in places to rent things? not familar with rent houses.

sorry, i am in slc right now. i took a quick look at the pricing on the cameras and it almost seems like it meant be just as expensive to buy a 35mm camera then it will to rent one cause 300 dailey useing a camera, i could pay off a camera with 2 weeks. but then again i am not sure what a good camera to use, to get a good picture.
also i am not sure with a budget, i mainly focus on getting the camera and focusing on in other stuff later. cause i have most i think i will be needing, expect for a 35mm camera.

please can you tell me if you can put film onto a HDV tape? does it make the quality any better then if it were on a DV tape.

Do you realize what the price of even a decent well used 35mm sync camera is?

Buying (and maintaining) even a 25 year old camera and enough glass to cover an average project could start at $35,000 and for really good stuff, the sky's the limit! By the time you add all the other things that you would need (support, mattebox, follow focus, filters, mags, etc) you can be nearer $50,000 and still be a long way from current great stuff. No one, I mean almost no one, owns unless they are shooting all the time. The entire industry runs on rentals, feature films, pilots, commercials, even a lot of episodics use rental houses for everything.

You should consider a better media than HDV for your telecine. Use the best that your post workflow will support. My original recomendation still stands, hire a DP, you will need one.

I recommend that before you try to jump into 35mm film that you first learn the basics. Have you ever shot anything?

If you absolutely want film, you should start with 8mm and learn the basics. If you want to make a skate video for fun, 35mm definitely isn't something to play around with.
 
so DP is ditgal video producer?
now rent house?

what would put the 35mm film onto so you can edit it?

DP is a Director of Photography

Basically someone who knows film, who knows how to use lights, how to operate the camera, etc. Like khmuse said, you should rent the equipment and get a DP if you want your project to look well for reasonably cheap.

To edit the 35mm film you would also have to process it and also telecine it, which means scanning the film so you can edit it on a computer. If you just have a one day shoot, you might be able to pay an unexperienced DP around $500 and then for a 5 minute video, your film costs total (with camera) might be around $5,000 or so. So you could get this done with about $6,000. You might also want to consider shooting HD, which you could probably get away with getting the $500 DP and renting a good camera for a day $300 plus some other expenses like lights, tapes, etc. You could probably shoot it HD for about $1,000.

but i am thinking that i will start with the basics then work my way up, but the only question is, is that i have no idea where to learn to use a 35mm camera? without going to a film school is there really any other way? How do learn to be a DP? experience? film school? job or work? can anyone help me out.

You don't have to go to film school for what you want to do. You can go rent a camera from a place that rents out cameras. You really should search the internet though for all these questions you have and once you've done some good hardy research, then if you still haven't found your answers, you should ask here. But asking these types of questions without research makes people think you are just screwing around with them.
