question

i have a sony dcr-vx1000 and im looking for some tips to get it to look like film, by useing sutter speed, magic bullet ect. anyone know some tips that would help me out?

Getting 60i DV to look like film can be a tall order. I've shot with a Sony PD-150 and to get a more "filmic look" I start with the best lighting I can get. Try to shot with as wide of an apature opening (iris setting) as you can to try and shorten the depth of field.

In post, using FCP, I desaturate the image (around +33 is good for me). In the 3way color corrector, I boost the blacks a little and bring the hightlights way down. Then I deinterlace the footage. This is a start. Experiment with the color corrector and with gamma controls.

Good Luck.

You can definitly do some great color correcting in AE.

HSL - for desaturating
Levels/Curves - for blacks
Lots of Options for Color Correcting

If you have AE you should try to get your hands on the new Magic Bullet 2.0 Suite. Let it handle de-interlacing your footage, converting 60i to 24p or 30p, optical transitions, and the look suite is hot even with just the presets.

MB 2.0 is pretty expensive but if you look online hard enough you can find it.
