Question on Rode NTG-2 package

I'm trying to put together a audio kit for my new DVX100B. I currently have
2 Sennheiser ME66 which I rigged to fit on an old fishing rod (instand boom pole!). The mics work okay and the fishing rod offers much more flexibility that my previous atempts at homemade boom poles (mop and broomstick fusion -patent pending).

Anyway, I don't like the way these Sennheisers focus on pinpoint sounds rather than giving me a nice, blanket ambience. So I've been looking around for new mics. A friend of mine pointed me at this weblink:

Does anyone know anything about RODE NTG2s?
 
I use a Rode ntg2 and I'm quite pleased with it. Use the search function and you'll find a lot of info on Rode microphones. This is a popular mic with the DVX100 and it has been discussed in great detail on this site. Good Luck.

Everyone on this forum seems to be quite fond of the NTG2. Ideally I'd like to get a more robust mic, but I think that's something for later on when I have a little more cash in my pocket. So I think I'll go ahead and look to buy a NTG2 myself.

My question to you is, when using your NTG2, do you record directly to camera or do you record seperately?
 
I record directly to the camera with my NTG2. It's very quiet...and it has a nice sound to it. It's definitely a lot of bang for the buck. It should hold you over until you buy your Sennheiser 416.:)

I found this older post when I was researching microphones for my DVX 100b. A few questions if you have a minute: Do you still like the Rode NTG2? Is the Sennheiser 416 a much more expensive mic, and is it worth the price difference? One more question is: I have a Shure 58 mic that I used to use when I was still playing some gigs--Is this mic comparable to the Rode, or is it the wrong type of mic for recording to the camera. Sorry for all the newbie questions, but I'm new to using the DVX.

rode came with new ntg-3 , about 700usd
seems like they came to conclution that they need 1 normal mic and not 2 quit owfull products
on the paper looks very close to what 416 is
