Question on resizing

If I import a video at 720x480, and make the project settings 720x360, and then click on the video and say match output, so it cuts the top and bottom off, am I losing any resolution? Is there a better way to do this? I don't want to have the black bars, though. Would it be better if I made the video a little bit smaller like 500x333?

Thanks,
Pfista

If you match your video (crop) to the output, you shouldn't have any black bars.

What are you trying to do, though?

Sorry, I don't get black bars. It's a 720x360 image. I was just wondering if this changed the resolution in any way. If I capture in vegas from a dvx100b is the actual size 720x480 or is it 640x480?

I'm trying to get it to be the highest quality but also cropped. So what I did was import the footage, made project settings 720x360, click on pan/crop, right clicked on the field and said match output aspect.

So before I do that, my image is looking like this

and after I match output aspect

Now, is it not just pulling it foward until the sides touch? Doesn't this result in a stretch in the image? It seems like im losing quality . So what I'm asking is, is there a size where it wouldnt be pulling the image like that, It would be the native size.

//edit
Wow. I think I figured it out. So since maintain aspect ratio is on, the first image is actually smaller than normal, and when I match to output aspect it brings it back to its normal size... right?
