Question on lenses

I own a zoom lens that im planning on using with my 35mm adapter, and Im not sure how to tell how "fast" the lens is. So i guess maybe if someone could explain to me what part of the lens needs to be "fast" that might be a good start.

Also, here is the information and numbers found on the front of the lens.

Promura C.P. Hi-Lux MC 1:3.9/5.3 F=35-135mm 58(with the infinity symbol in front of it)

Could someone maybe explain to me what this all means. I am quite at a loss right now, even after some extensive searching through google.

Thanks alot!

It means that the lens is a variable f-stop lens running from f3.9 at the wide end and f5.3 at the low end. The smaller the f-number the faster the lens is. F3.9 is pretty slow, especially when the iris closes down to 5.3 as you zoom in.

Alright cool thanks for explaining that..my main lens which is a 50mm is 1:1.8. Is this okay? After some reading around, this seems to be the norm for a 50mm lens.

Yeah thats fine. Most filmmakers would probably get a 1.4 but 1.8's a decent lens. I use a 1.7 and don't have too many problems with light.
