Question On Credit Cards

I am just curious & would like to ask this question. Concerning purchasing credit cards in the U.S., do the majority of Americans order & purchase their credit cards of choice online just like they would order & pay for books online at www.amazon.com for example? Is this the common trend in the U.S.? How about obtaining home mortgages/loans online instead visiting a bank?

Back here in my country, we usually pay a visit to a physical bank to apply for a credit card. We issue the bank with all relevant documents & they will call us back to collect our credit card in a week's time.

In this country the banks flood your mail box with "your pre-approved" forms...."just sign below and we will send you your high limit card". I bet I get 3 a day. Keeps the paper shredder companys in business.

You can apply for credit cards online.

But most people apply through the mail.

I highly doubt the percentage of mortgages that are transacted online is very high, though.

I see, so in your state, there's no need to order & purchase your credit cards online? Thanks.
Nope.......the banks are very encouraging.....they are the root of all debt evil by making it way too easy.

I agree with marlenedegrood (what a looooooooooong name!) Banks are really lobbying hard & pushing hard to promote their credit cards. They're trying to out-do each other to get as many to sign up. So I would agree that they try to make it as easy & attractive to sign up.

but one good thing about them all competing.... rewards. as long as you pay it off every month and don't rack up any interest, you can totally take advantage of all the rewards they give you to get you to choose their card.

as soon as i turn 18, i'll be rackin up the frequent flyer miles to nab next year.

we watched this video in business class about 'freeloading' and how like ben stein has 30 some credit cards, never has any debt on them, just uses them for the rewards.

Hehe ecaarr, good points on freq flyer miles to NAB. I'm sure your reward points would nicely cover your travel expense to NAB next year. I too have never been to NAB & 1 day would like to make that pilgrimmage :)

And then when it comes time to get a real loan (mortgage or whatever), no one will touch you because you're not a good investment.

Paying off the card every month shows you're responsible. It also shows no one ever made any money off you. :)

Well, true what you said GenJerDan, but then there are many other banks who will be willing to offer a real loan. There is not just 1 bank to choose from. If this bank refuses to offer a loan to a promp paying customer, well, that customer can easily take his business to another bank that may offer even more attractive credit terms.

My credit card racks up 30000 points a year. Now that doesnt equat to 30000 spent, some buys have double point offers etc, but all told I put about 20k a year through my card. Those points arent worth a great deal to be honest. About 10000 points is worth about 100 dollars roughly.
