Question: Lenses for Letus FE

Hello everybody,

New guy here! I tried searching through posts for hours, but ultimately decided that posting might get my answers quicker. I recently bought a Letus FE w/ Nikon mount (thanks shortnstout) and while I know some about 35mm adapters, I'm having difficulty finding (or deciding) which lenses are right for it. I want to know which lenses are and aren't okay to use with this adapter. Could someone steer me in the right direction? Sorry if it has been a repetitious question around here, but I'm probably going to have a lot more. Thanks.

you have many options, and it really depends on your budget.

canon are generally less expensive, at the cost of using lenses that, since it is magnetically or electronically activated, the aperture remains open, always fully open. There are hacks ot fix this but i don't know of them.

I have nikon lenses that work very well. i am having an issue with the mount, however, as it is bumping my image every time i rack focus due to it being somwhat loose.

I use Canon FD lenses. They are cheaper to come by second hand. They require a Hack to use the aperture on the FE, but its really simple.

I have a 55mm F1.8, 28mm F2.8 and 135mm F2.8 - I got each lens for less than $50.

No matter what lens you choose, the faster the better on the FE. I would make sure you can hit at least F 3.5 any slower than that and it will be Outdoors only or unload the grip truck.

Thanks for the responses. I've got a 50mm Nikon lens that came with the adapter, so I'm most likely sticking with the Nikon. I was hoping someone could tell me particular Nikon/Nikkor models that will work alongside the adapter without problems. Or tell me which lenses to avoid - I've heard digital and non-AI lenses aren't compatible with adapters, is this true?

Manual lenses are usually best and are often less expensive. To ensure full compatibility you would want a manual aperture and focus.

i'm currently offering an nikon 85mm 2.0 and a 24mm 2.8 sigma in the marketplace for $210 if interested.these work great with the letus in which i've owned the fe and now the ex.pm me if interested.

Okay, I have a question regarding zoom/telephoto lenses. If I purchase a 80-200mm f/2.8 lens, do I need to buy the 85mm f/2.8, 135 f/2.8, 180mm f/2.8 and 200mm f/2.8 lenses since the 80mm to 200mm zoom covers all those? Unless those lenses have lower f-stop then it's worth buying them separately, correct?

pretty much,

Also, in terms of the glass quality, i believe you get the sweetest look of each lens when you get the primes, but a zoom will also come in very handy im sure.

Many zooms get slower the more telephoto you get. Your lens might be f 2.8 at 80 but it could be f 5.6 at 200mm. Test it out
