Question from Newbie - Please Help

I am editing a live concert for DVD. This is my first "real" job in FCP.
I have made the mistake of editing 23.98 footage in a 59.94 sequence.
I have made cuts and fades that I'm pleased with and very much want to keep.
My question is this:
Can I copy and paste my edits(with fades) into a new 23.98 sequence?
When I do a simple copy and paste, the fades do not travel over.
Is there a way to avoid doing so much of my work over again???
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!
Sam

If your footage is 23.98, then you should be able to change the settings in the sequence file to match that. It shouldn't mess anything up, but you may have to render any gfx or other files again.

I had this problem once before. You won't be able to send the footage to a tape, but you can compress the footage for DVD. Just finish your edit in the sequence you're using now and then export it like you would for DVD. I normally use Compressor.

If you need to make a master tape, you'll also need to do this using Compressor. Export Using Compressor, then in Compressor go to the settings tab and click on the Advanced Format Conversions folder. You'll see another folder for Standard Definition. In the Standard Definition folder, you'll see DV NTSC and DV NTSC Anamorphic, as well as other formats. You'll probably want to select one of those.

If your project is in HD. Select the High Definition folder instead of the Standard Definition folder.

Either way, this will create a quicktime file that is 23.98 that you can import into a 23.98 sequence. You won't be able to edit the file though.

Thank you so much for the help! So, what I understand is that it is totally legit to keep editing these particular songs in the 59.94 timebase. And when I'm ready to piece all of the songs together, I can create 23.98 versions and place them as quicktimes in a master sequence with the other songs that were correct to begin with??? My final output will be DVD, so I think this sounds like it will be fine.

Thank you again for the help. This is all very new.
I'm a songwriter/record producer turning shooter/video editer and its an awesome/frightening new world.
