Question for the FCP knowhow's

Hey guys...

Shot a short yesterday in 24pa.

Shot a scene in 60i for a better slow motion piece.

What's the best way to get the 60i footage to work smoothly with my 24pa footage. I always capture with NTSC 48 khz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal for my 24pa footage.

thanks,
Jay

I haevn't really found a convinient way to do that. If you have the Re:Vision FieldsKit you can de-interlace using the "1 frame per field" option which gives you a smooth 50% slomo on a 30fps timeline. Export that as self contained and conform to 24p in Cinema Tools. If you don't have the FieldsKit you can use After Effects, "interpret footage" -> seperate fields, then stretch to 200% duration, export without fields and then conform in Cinema Tools.
Maybe someone has a better workflow?

I would say, do the slow motion in a timeline your 60i footage likes for a smooth workflow, export and open in cinema tools convert to 24P, it will be a bit slower but this is a smooth quick way todo what you want todo.

If I were mixing a lot of 60i shots, then I'd edit everything in a standard timeline. Watch your 24pa footage in a standard timeline to see if it looks too "off". It plays fine for my tastes. If you want a 24 fps file in the end, then you may try turning your 60i into 30p, and dropping it into your 24 timeline.

Any news?

If you simply drop 30p into 24p FCP will try to keep the speed resulting in a pretty bad interpolated 24p. If you shot for slowmotion you'll need to use "conform" in Cinema Tools or "interpret footage" in AFX.
