Question for disjecta

Re: Question for disjecta

thanks. i had done that in the past, but it hasn't seemed to help since i upgraded from fcp 3. I will double check.

Re: Question for disjecta

Jesus, go in the matte filters and choose widescreen. You can select your aspect ratio from a list, reposition the image upwards or down and set yourself free.

FCP is an easy software, but we have to believe in it.

Good luck!

Re: Question for disjecta

I know how to do it, I'm just saying it is softening my image. Enough that when i watch a scene I can tell which shots had been offset. But I am going to check again and see if it is an odd/even thing. I thought i had ruled that out, but might be wrong...

Re: Question for disjecta

Disjecta,

Concerning your 1.6x Century Optics Tele, is it a 72mm lense or did you have to purchase additional adapter rings? I guess I could go to their website and look for myself. Just wanted to see if any additional hardware would need to be purchased to use the 1.6x.

Re: Question for disjecta

Yes, It's a 72mm bayonet mount, no additional hardware necessary. Century makes this lens specifically for the DVX.

Re: Question for disjecta

Disjecta, you're my hero ;D!!!!

Disjecta has the gift and coltrain can stick it in a dill-hole.

Dropping in to say a sincere word of gratitude to where it's due- disjecta has talent, look out town! And if Pookie reads this, hi too. (If either of you remember me.)

I've been working on my first feature these past few months- hence the radio silence but it's coming together- wish me luck!

Disjecta, can you recommend me your favorite by your favorite writer? It's odd how it's the sensitive writers who always find him and love him best.

Cheerios.

Question for disjecta:

Is Preparation H the right choice for me?

I call disjecta the National Geographic man. The man has skills! ;D

Re: Question for disjecta

Still having problems with the offset when letterboxing. I checked the odd, even thing, and while it does make a slight difference, neither hit the level of sharpness i get at zero. Does anyone have ideas? I am in fcpHD, 24p footage on a 29.97 timeline.

Thanks.

Re: Question for disjecta

Stationhouse,

You may want to also drop this over in the FCP forum and let those guys give a crack at it. I would love to help but I'm waiting on tax return time to purchase my G5 setup. When you find the solution maybe you could share it with us.

Re: Question for disjecta

Well, here's a few little tips for FCP. I don't like to widescreen filter clips in the timeline individually because you have to actually apply it to and render each individual one. Then, say later you want it changed, you have 300 clips that you have to change and re-render. Try this, nest your entire sequence and then apply the filter to the new sequence. This way, you can view any of the widescreen stuff, go back and edit, or change the filter once for everything.

OR, forget the widescreen filter and make a new sequence that is 16:9. Then throw the nested original edit into that. Then, when you compress, you get a 16:9 export and on a 4:3 set it will letterbox, while on a 16:9 set it will fill the screen. This is how I like to do it, and for web exports, you don't have black bars at the top and bottom for no reason. PLUS: you won't have to render each shot like using the filters. You can edit, jump to the 16:9 and see your changes in the widescreen in realtime with no render needed. This helps workflow quite a bit.

Either way you still have widescreen with a 4:3 in it allowing vertical shift for framing.

And man, eqwalker is right. - Apple's forums are AWESOME. They really are very helpful and thousands of people are on them, so us FCP users have a great resource for support.
Hmmm...sounds like this other great site I know...
