Question for disjecta

Re: Question for disjecta

Be easy? I couldnt be hard if I tried (That sounds bad). For such a small clip, it looks great; exposure, comp, edit...

Nice job!

Re: Question for disjecta

Thanks, the camera did most of the work. I used a 100 watt dome lamp to light the cards scenes and just played with the colors a bit in FCP.

Re: Question for disjecta

I don't think you can declare yourself as having a gift.

Someone needs to do it for you.

Re: Question for disjecta

I already did declare it. "..mad skills..." = "...gift..."

Fine; I declare; D Man has a gift for composition and framing.

Skills!

Re: Question for disjecta

If subject 1 declares a "gift", then subject 2 rejects the "gift" as self "gifted", but subject 3 has already "gifted" subject 1 with the original "gift", who does the "gift" subject 2 "ungifted" go to, since subject 1 still has a "gift"?

Thanks John   :D[/quote]

Did you just "ungift" your "gift"..... ???

Re: Question for disjecta

For the record, disjecta is a real latin word. It means "scattered" and is usually found accompanied by a second latin word "membra" which means remains. Scattered remains.

(Sorry. Couldn't resist. I studied Italian and a little Latin in a past life.)

Re: Question for disjecta

Ah! Parla Italiano, si? :D Capisco un po.

I actually really suck at Italian. Haven't looked at that language for a while now
:-X

Re: Question for disjecta

You and me both, brother. I'll have business that'll take me back to Italia before too long and I think that'll brush me up some. Jarred's blog from Rome made me miss it. Funny, we have members from all over the world but the few Italian members we have are not at all active. Maybe too busy shooting vid.

Re: Question for disjecta

Don't listen to Moe - "Scattered Remains" is Disjectorum code for, "don't screw with the Duck Worshipers or we will kill you and feed your dismembered body to the divine fowl who will then spread pieces of you all over the known world."

He's probably part of the conspiracy... And where were you on November 22, 1963 Moe, Hmmmm? Playing with the "Ducks" on a grassy knoll somewhere in Texas, perhaps?

Re: Question for disjecta

people who are very talented can often seem pretentious to people who feel insecure because of their confidence in what they do. You need extreme confidence to make beautiful images because uncertainy shows.

I think if someone came on and said they bought this 10,000 light kit, and that 1000 dollar filter and their images were mediocre, i would find that pretentious. But to say something is innate, it's just a fact. You can improve yourself (and he certainly didn't say you did not have the gift), but the base talent has to be there. Really talented DP's could pick up a 300 camera and take beautiful shots.

Re: Question for disjecta

and now a pure tech issue -
i'm working in fcp hd and when i offset my image within the letterbox to adjust framing it loses resolution. Has anyone seen this?

all tech aside - does anyone know of good forums to discuss aesthetics? Most of the film sites I stumble on to these days are focused on tech and gear talk. Just curious....

Re: Question for disjecta

Make sure you offset your image in even numbers. If you offset it to an odd coordinate, it will compromise the image. Basically just scoot it up or down by one pixel and it should solve your problem.
