Question for Brevis Users, Handheld

Hey guys. Got an HPX170, Zeiss glass, and Brevis35.

Now My question is, what is the best way to go handheld with this rig?

I am considering buying the Cinevate grips and shoulder pad, but it seems strange that all the weight of the rig will be bearing down on that one screw..Unless it is tightened incredible hard, it seems like the rig would sag in the middle...

is there a better handgrip option? what about the redrock one

the cinevate hand grips seem like a good buy and very adjustable, I was considering them myself. Haven't read any complaints about them slipping yet.

The shoulder rig mode of the Proteus shoulder mount system is quite solid..and that's without a whole lot of tightening on the links. The grips themselves require more tension, but once set they're fine too. You'll see a tool-less version of the grips shortly that uses the same monstrous clamping force that our Durus follow focus is capable of. The grips themselves won't change, just the "long" links.

We've had zero complaints on the system, however once we finished the Durus FF clamp design, it made a lot of sense to extend that over to the grips too. This is one of the really great advantages of a fairly aggressive development program that focuses on modularity. A discovery on one project can be quickly leveraged elsewhere.

Cheers,
Dennis

The shop has been fully tasked getting caught up on the Durus FF, Proteus Cage as well as the recent Pegasus Linear Tracking Systems. So the new clamps are at least 3 weeks off. We're working on some tweaks to simplify the new design for manufacturing.

I assume when turning the cinevate rails system into a hand held rig with shoulder mount/grips, an external LCD monitor is manditory? or is it possible to go without?

Also, just out of curiosity, could a redrock shoulder mount attach to the cinevate rails system instead?

Anything designed for 15mm rails should work fine with our system. The camera LCD position and/or your setup would determine if you'd use an external monitor with the Proteus shoulder rig. The setup is designed to be used on shoulder and tripod interchangeably (balanced fore/aft) with no setup transitions so typically if you use an external monitor, you'd leave it attached in the exact same manner as you would on tripod.
