Question about Rostronics offerings

Yes they do get hot..I can attest to that. they are also bright. Here is my rationale:

--Orininally going to but the 300/600 combo
They are really square and worklite-ish. The bulbs are the long type and there are two, just like a combo work lite.

:O( If you go real low, you are stuck at that wattage.

:O) (In my opinion) the GY's can accept all wattages UP to 650

:O) Tom from Rostronics informed me that you can use a dimmer to reduce the
light.

BTW: I am doing documentary work, so I will have interviews as well. I am also going to film historical artifacts, so more light might be helpful. Might I recomend Jack Jackmans' book on lighting....available at Border's books and other high volume bookstores and Amazon. He suggests (as does the highly respected Barry Green, that the key light in interviews should be a softlight. The benefit of the 650 is that Tom swaps out the umbrella usually supplied in the 1500 kit with another softbox in the upgraded kit, thus giving you two softboxes. As I understand it, soft boxes must be used no less than 4-6 feet from your interviewee, becuse it defuses the light so much. I am still experimenting, mind you, so I might find that I need to use dimmers. Hope this helps, too!

Beaker-
I am concerned that the 650's will be too hot and bright for intimate interviews. I believe the 250's are also round, no?

So you use two 650's with softboxes as your key and fill? Just place the fill farther away from the subject? What about a backlight?

I just realized that the 1500W kit comes with a focusable 200W backlight. I wonder if the 200W could be swapped for a 100W or smaller.

I am sure it can... Tom is very accommodating.but in a conversation with Barry, he recommended the 200.

Tom will swap anything for anything, or do as custom a kit as you can imagine. And he is fair about prices too. Give him a call.
